Writing and Printing Paper

Writing paper
This is uncoated paper, suitable for printing or other graphic purposes, where at least 90% of the fiber used comes from chemical pulp. Uncoated woodfree paper can be made from a variety of different fiber blends, with variable levels of mineral filler and a range of finishing processes such as sizing, calendaring, machine-glazing and watermarking. This grade includes most office papers, such as business forms, copier, computer, stationery and book papers. Most types of uncoated paper are surface sized to improve their strength. Such paper is used in stationery and lower quality leaflets and brochures.

Printing paper
Also known as coated paper, is all paper suitable for printing or other graphic purposes and coated on one or both sides with minerals such as china clay (kaolin) or calcium carbonate. Coating may be done by a variety of methods, both on-machine and off-machine, and may be supplemented by super-calendaring.

Copy paper

Many types of Office Paper are specifically designed for specialized applications as well as general purpose printing and copying.

Three major categories are:

  • Multi-Purpose Paper: best for everyday printing
  • Laser Printer Paper: best for printers, copiers, etc. that use toner.
  • Inkjet Printer Paper: best for printing graphics and images.
Art Paper and Board

Coated or art paper is made of chemical pulp which often has a high non-wood percentage. The matt or glossy finish applied and the water-based coating (dispersion coating) applied gives a smooth, closed surface which makes this paper harder to write, print, or stamp onto. The dispersion coating seals the color and gives the paper increased stability, which leads to excellent printed images with sharp contrasts. Coated paper is the perfect illustration printing sheet, just right for flyers, brochures, and similar visual products.

Matt coated paper is preferred for the printing of products with large sections of text (brochures, folded information leaflets, etc.) due to the lower reflection of the surface and the improved legibility of texts.

Glossy coated paper is particularly suitable for print products with a number of large pictures. The pictures (e.g. high-quality product images) stand out due to the light reflection. Glossy art print paper is ideal for the printing of image brochures, posters, folded leaflets and advertising material, as high picture quality is often of great importance.

Kraft Liner Board

It is a linerboard that contains at least 80% virgin kraft pulp fibers.

It consists of bleached or unbleached kraft pulp (sulphate pulp) with a particularly high fraction of long fibers. Kraft liner is used as the outer layer (facing) of corrugated board or solid fiberboard. It has a high strength and is resistant to moisture.

Kraft liner must have a minimum grammage of 120 g/m²; however, it is offered with grammages between 115 g/m² and 430 g/m². They contain a high proportion of recycled fiber pulp (max. 20%).

White Top Liners

For certain boxes that demand good presentation, white bleached pulp or coating is used on the top ply of the linerboard that goes outside the box.

White top liners are premium quality liners designed for the printing surface of corrugated shippers, display trays and POP displays.
This superior printing surface is perfect for both flexo and direct printing applications.
